Anne Hathaway starring in N.J. director’s ‘Verity,’ adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling book

Anne Hathaway is playing Verity Crawford in the upcoming film adaptation of the bestselling Colleen Hoover book “Verity.”
Deadline reports that Millburn’s Hathaway will re-team with Princeton’s Michael Showalter, director of the actor’s recent romantic comedy “The Idea Of You.”
Showalter will helm “Verity,” an Amazon MGM film set for theatrical release.
The big-screen adaptation of Hoover’s bestselling 2016 book “It Ends With Us,” starring Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni and New Jersey’s Brandon Sklenar, who filmed the movie in Jersey, debuted in theaters in August. The film raked in $349 million worldwide on a $25 million budget.
“Verity,” which Hoover self-published in 2018 before the book was acquired by Grand Central Publishing in 2021, is about a writer named Lowen Ashleigh who is hired to work on a series of thriller novels from a famous author, Verity Crawford, who can’t finish them because she was injured in an accident.
The author’s husband, Jeremy Crawford, hires Lowen to do the job. In the course of her work, Lowen finds Verity’s unfinished autobiography, which contains shocking revelations about her life, ones that could forever alter how Jeremy sees her — which is not of little consequence to Lowen, who is developing feelings for him.

Nick Antosca (”Antler,” TV’s “Candy,” “Channel Zero” and “Brand New Cherry Flavor”) wrote the screenplay for the film adaptation of the book.
Oscar winner Hathaway, 42, is producing “Verity” alongside Hoover, Showalter and Antosca.
Showalter, 54, directed “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” (2021), which won Jessica Chastain an Oscar, and “The Big Sick” (2017), for which Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon were nominated for the Oscar for best original screenplay.

He also directed “The Dropout,” the 2022 Hulu series starring Amanda Seyfried in an Emmy-winning performance as Elizabeth Holmes.
Another of his upcoming films is the holiday comedy “Oh. What. Fun.” starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Jersey’s own Dominic Sessa.
In October, Hathaway announced she would also be reprising the role of Mia Thermopolis of Genovia, a beloved character from the start of her career, in “The Princess Diaries 3.”
